With Product Hunt, I was able to channel my zeal for product discovery into a useful service to the community, and shared everything I could find. I’ve always been excited about new products (especially in the tech world) and had been active on a service called iusethis before it shut down. However, after listening to interviews with the founder, Ryan, and observing how he curated the community, I decided to dive in - and then became hooked. I don’t bite, I just don’t hunt everything that comes across my desk.Īt first I was reluctant to join Product Hunt because it seemed like yet another Digg-like popularity contest. I tend to decline prelaunch or crowdfunding projects unless I really like them and they are nearly- or already-funded (this is also a Product Hunt stipulation). I dislike products that are fundamentally about content marketing (vs. I tend to prefer not to hunt products that aren’t somehow aligned with my interests, experience, or that aren’t in an interesting or emergent area for innovation or the application of new technology. I like social apps, voice computing, design products and UI kits, Mac apps, and lots of other stuff. It also helps if the makers are passionate about the problem they’re solving and are eager to candidly engage with the Product Hunt community’s feedback. Personally, I love to hunt products that are well designed, solve a salient problem in a thoughtful or clever way, and are easy to explain.
